RESOLUTION NO. 96-29
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF PARKLAND, FLORIDA SUPPORTING THE
CONTINUATION OF "PRESERVATION 2000" AND
URGING MEMBERS OF mE BROWARD COUNTY
LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION TO SPONSOR AND ENACT A
"WATER SUPPLY PRESERVE ACT OF 1996" AND
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, "Preservation 2000" is Florida's premiere land acquisition program
for protecting and preserving habitat valuable for Florida's future economy and
environment; and
WHEREAS, the Florida Legislature enacted the "Water Supply Preserve Act of
1995," which set aside ten percent (10%) of the Preservation 2000 funding to purchase a
buffer between the Everglades and urban areas; and
WHEREAS, the Water Supply Preserves buffer the Everglades from encroaching
urban development; and
WHEREAS, the Water Supply Preserves are vital to habitat protection, water
supply protection, recharge storm water retention and flood protection; and
WHEREAS, the Water Supply Preserves would help to restore the Everglades by
reducing seepage from the Everglades and increasing groundwater discharge; and
WHEREAS, the Water Supply Preserves would provide critically important water
supply storage areas for over 6 million people in South Florida; and
WHEREAS, funding of $27 million from the 1995 Water Supply Preservation Act
has already been approved and committed; and
WHEREAS, additional funds are necessary to complete the acquisition of the
Water Supply Preserves; and
WHEREAS, "Preservation 2000" and the .,Water Supply Preserves require
continued funding;

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY mE CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF PARKLAND, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The City of Parkland fully supports using Preservation 2000 funds
to acquire lands for the Water Supply Preserves and continued funding of the program
through its lands for the Water Supply Preserves and continued funding of the program
through its namesake year.
Section 2. Inasmuch as South Florida will gain immense benefits from the
continuation of these programs, the City of Parkland does hereby urge the members of the
Broward County Legislative Delegation to sponsor appropriate legislation to ensure
continuation of the programs.
Section 3. That the City Clerk be and hereby is directed to provide
photocopies of this Resolution to all members of the Broward County Legislative
Delegation, the Broward County League of Cities and all Broward County municipalities.
Section 4. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect immediately
upon its passage and adoption.
