HomeMy WebLinkAbout1996-24 Grant Funds from FL Rec Dev Assist Program-$100,000 for Park Development RESOLUTION NO. 96-24 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF PARKLAND FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF PARKLAND WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS; STATING THE AVAILABILITY OF GRANT FUNDS FROM FLORIDA RECREATION DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM; AUTHORIZING AND INSTRUCTING THE CITY MANAGER TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION FOR GRANT FUNDS; REPEALING CONFLICTING RESOLUTIONS AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, the City of Parkland has acquired a parcel of property for a public park in connection with the other parks within the City's park system, and WHEREAS, the State of Florida, through the Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program, has allocated funds for distribution to local governments to further the objectives of natural resource conservation and outdoor recreation through the development and enhancement of park lands; and WHEREAS, improvements to the City's park land is within the scope of the intended purposes of the Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program; and WHEREAS, the receipt of grant funds from the State of Florida would benefit the citizens and residents of the City of Parkland by supplementing the funds available for the City to develop a public park with an emphasis on outdoor recreation and restoration of native vegetation and conservation of natural resources on the park property. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF mE CITY OF PARKLAND, FLORIDA: RESOLUTION NO. 96-24 PAGE 2 Section 1. That the City of Parkland would benefit significantly from the . receipt of a grant for development of park facilities from the Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program. Section 2. That the City Manager is authorized and directed to forward 1Q the State of Florida an application requesting grant funds in the amount up to $100,000.00 from the Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program on behalf of the City to be u$ed for develc;>ping park facilities and providing native vegetation and natural resource conservation ,areas including hiking trails, picnic areas, and support facilities. Section 3. That the Commission and City staff shall work diligently to ensure that the grant funds are utilized in a manner consistent with the objectives of the Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program. Section 4. That all resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith be and the same are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict. Section 5.
