HomeMy WebLinkAbout1996-03 Support Return to Community Neighborhood Schooling-Choice of Schools RESOLUTION NO. 96 - 03 A RESOLUTION OP THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OP PARKLAND, FLORIDA SUPPORTING A RETURN TO COMMUNITY NEIGHBORHOOD SCHOOLING, SUPPORTING AND ENCOURAGING THB BROWARD COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD TO SUPPORT PARENTS' CHOICB OP NEIGHBORHOOD SCHOOLS POR THBIR CHILDREN TO ATTEND AND TO ACTIVBLY OPPOSB THB BXISTING PRACTICE OF THB BROWARD COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD IN DICTATING TO PARENTS WHICH SCHOOL THBIR CHILDREN WILL ATTBND; PROVIDING FOR TRUE COPIBS OF THIS RBSOLUTION TO BE DELIVBRED TO BACH BROMARD COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER, THE SUPBRINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS AND TO BACH OF THE SEVERAL MUNICIPALITIBS OF THE COUNTY OF BROWARD; PROVIDING POR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SBVBRABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVB DATE. WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Parkland, Florida has determined that it is in the best interest of the citizens and residents of the City as well as the public in general to return to community neighborhood schooling; and WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Parkland, Florida has further determined that it is in the best interest of the citizens and residents of the City as well as the public in general to support and encourage the Broward County School Board to support parents' choice of schools for their children to attend and to actively oppose the existing practice of the Broward County School Board in dictating to parents which school their children will attend; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVBD BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF PARKLAND, FLORIDA, that: Section 1. The foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are true and correct and hereby ratified and confirmed by the City Commission. Section 2. That the, City Commission of the City of Parkland, Florida has determined and hereby declares that it is in the best interest of the citizens and residents of the City as well as the public in general to return to community neighborhood schooling. RESOLUTION NO. 96-03 PAGE 2 Section 3. The City Commission of the City of Parkland, Florida has determined and hereby declares that it is in the best interest of the citizens and residents of the City as well as the public in general to support and encourage the Broward County School Board to support parents' choice of schools for their children to attend and to actively oppose the existing practice of the Broward County School Board in dictating to parents which school their children will attend. Section 4. The City Commission of the City of Parkland, Florida hereby directs the City Clerk to provide true copies of this Resolution to each Broward County School Board Member, the Superintendent of Schools and to each of the several municipalities of the County of Broward. Section 5. conflict herewith are conflict. All resolutions of parts of resolutions in hereby repealed to the extent of such Section 6. If any clause, section, other part or application of this Resolution is held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, in part or application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions or applications of this Resolution.
