RESOLUTION NO. 95-40
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
PARKLAND, FLORIDA RELATING TOMUNI~IPALANNEXA TION;
EXPRESSING THE COMMISSION'S DESIRE TO MAINTAIN THE
CITY'S CURRENT GEOGRAPHICAL BOUNDARIES; OBJECTING
TO FORCED ANNEXATION OF UNINCORPORATED AREAS INTO
OTHER MUNICIPALITIES; AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE
MA VOR TO PRESENT THE CITY'S POSITION TO THE
BROWARD COUNTY LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION AD HOC
COMMITTEE ON ANNEXATION; REPEALING CONFLICTING
RESOLUTIONS; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVEDA TE.
WHEREAS, the Broward County Legislative Delegation has created an
Ad Hoc Committee to review the current status and receive public input on the
annexation of unincorporated areas in Broward County and to prepare a report of
its findings and recommendations; and
WHEREAS, the City of Parkland is an incorporated municipality of
approximately 10,000 residents which is bordered by various unincorporated
neighborhoods; and '
WHEREAS, the City has recently made substantial improvements to
the quality af life of its residents by beautifying the City and improving the
environmental atmosphere by planting trees and shrubs and expanding our parks;
and
WHEREAS, the City Commission has been able to accomplish the
aforesaid 1m )rovements while maintaining one of the lowest property tax millage
rates of any municipality in Broward County; and
WHEREAS, any expansion of the City's geographical boundaries
would create an undue burden on the municipal services provided by the City to
Its residents; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF PARKLAND, FLORIDA, that:
Section 1. That the Parkland City Commission desires to
maintain its rural atmosphere it has enjoyed since 1963 and to maintain the
geographical boundaries of the City as they currently exist.
Section 2. That the Parkland City Commission requests that
Parkland be omitted from any proposed municipal annexation plan that would
either expand or contract the current geographical boundaries of the City.
Section 3. That the Parkland City Commission objects to any
plan or proposal which may provide for forced annexation of unincorporated areas
into another municipality or municipalities.
Section 4. That the Mayor is authorized and directed to
communicate the City Commission's position by the delivery of this Resolution to
the Broward County Legislative Delegation Ad Hoc Committee on annexation and
any other appropriate governmental body.
Section 5. That all Resolutions or parts of Resolutions in
conflict herewith being the same are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict.
