HomeMy WebLinkAbout1995-26 Urging Broward Cty Board of Rules & Appeals-Remove Requirement Fire Inspector must be Certified Firefighter RESOLUTION NO. 95 - 26 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF PARKLAND, FLORIDA URGING THE BROWARD COUNTY BOARD OF RULES AND APPEALS, TO DELETE FROM THE SOUTH FLORIDA BUILDING CODE THE REQUIREMENT THAT A FIRE INSPECTOR BE A CERTIFIED FIREFIGHTER WHEREAS, the South Florida Building Code requires that a Fire Inspector also be a certified firefighter; and WHEREAS, Florida Statute 633.081 (2), the Section which lists the qualifications of a Fire Inspector statewide, does not require the Fire Inspector to be a certified firefighter; and WHEREAS, the qualifications of a Fire Inspector, as listed by the aforementioned Florida Statute, are sufficient to protect the publics safety and interest; and WHEREAS, the extra requirement of the South Florida Building Code, that a Fire Inspector be a certified firefighter, only applies to cities located in Broward County and therefore, a unique and undue financial burden is placed upon those municipalities situated in Broward County; and WHEREAS, some cities have a shortage of personnel who are certified firefighters and are willing to obtain the certification required to serve as Fire Inspectors. RESOLUTION NO. 95 - 26 PAGE 2 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF PARKLAND, FLORIDA, that: Section 1. The City Officials of the City of Parkland hereby urges the Broward County-Board of Rules and Appeals to amend the South Florida Building Code by deleting Section 201.7(C)(5)(aa) and Section 5202.5(b), so that municipalities within Broward County have the option, but are not required, to incur the additional expense associated with employing only certified firefighters as Fire Inspectors.
