A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
PARKLAND, FLORIDA PROCLAIMING ITS SUPPORT OF THE
1994 KIDS FLORIDA VOTING PROGRAM
WHEREAS, KIDS VOTING is a national program which was
piloted in Phoenix, Arizona in 1988. Its mission is to improve
citizen involvement in our democracy by: engaging parents and
students in the democratic process; preparing current and future
generations of citizens to participate in their government, and
fostering the creation of a lifetime voting habit in today's youth;
and
WHEREAS, in our state, KIDS VOTING FLORIDA is operated
under the leadership of a board of directors comprised of business,
civic and community leaders. One hundred percent of its funding
is received from the private sector; and
WHEREAS, in 1992, The School Board of Broward County,
Florida introduced the KIDS VOTING curriculum in fifteen pilot
schools. At that time, over ten thousand students voted on
election day at regular polling places in each geographic area of
Broward County. Many volunteers from business, community
organizations, student groups and school personnel helped to make
this a successful voting experience; and
WHEREAS, with the commitment of the Broward County
affiliate of KIDS VOTING FLORIDA, the 1994 program will make it
possible for every child, in every school, at every polling place
in the country to enjoy the voting experience; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF PARKLAND, FLORIDA, in conjunction with KIDS VOTING
BROWARD, hereby proclaims its support of the KIDS VOTING,
initiative by endorsing the 1994 program;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City of Parkland,
Florida urges every school, center, and department within its
jurisdiction, and the entire community to join in the KIDS VOTING
campaign.

1994.
