A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
PARKLAND, FLORIDA SUPPORTING THE POSITION OF THE
NORTHWEST BROWARD COUNTY, FLORIDA, COUNCIL OF MAYORS
REQUESTING THE PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION TO DIRECT
THE TELEPHONE COMPANY TO INITIATE APPROPRIATE
CALLING USAGE STUDIES
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Parkland,
Florida finds and determines that it is in the best interest of the
citizens to support the position of the Northwest Broward County,
Florida, Council of Mayors to direct the telephone company to
initiate appropriate calling usage studies as described in the
attached proposed Resolution attached hereto and made a part
hereof;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF PARKLAND, FLORIDA, that:
Section 1. The City Commission hereby adopts this
Resolution supporting the position of the Northwest Broward County,
Florida, Council of Mayors.
Section 2. That this Resolution shall be in full
force and effect immediately upon its passage and adoption.

6 INITIATE APPROPRIATE CALLING USAGE
7 STUDIES IN ORDER TO ESTABLISH
8 EXTENSIVE AREA SERVICE BETWEEN THE
9 CORAL SPRINGS EXCHANGE AND THE
10 HOLLYWOOD, NORTH DADE, MIAMI,
11 PERRINE AND HOMESTEAD EXCHANGES;
12 BETWEEN THE POMPANO EXCHANGE AND THE
13 HOLLYWOOD, NORTH DADE, MIAMI,_
14 PERRINE AND HOMESTEAD EXCHANGES;
15 BETWEEN THE FORT LAUDERDALE EXCHANGE
16 AND THE PERRINE AND HOMESTEAD
17 EXCHANGES; AND BETWEEN THE
18 HOLLYWOOD EXCHANGE AND THE PERRINE
19 AND HOMESTEAD EXCHANGES; PROVIDING
20 FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

22 WHEREAS, Broward County and .Dade County have grown
23 dramatically in recent years; and
24 WHEREAS, a significant amount of growth is attributable to the
25 migration of businesses and families between Broward County and
26 Dade County; and
27 WHEREAS, the businesses and families located in Broward County
28 and those located in Dade County share common interests, and
29 therefore share the need for economical methods of communication
30 between the two counties; and
31 WHEREAS, the Florida Public Service Commission hits authorized
32 a flat rate extended area calling service between certain, but not
33 all, exchanges located in Broward County and Dade County, and
34 fairness demands that the other exchanges not so served be afforded
35 extended are service as well; and

1 WHEREAS, Section 25-4.059 of the Florida Administrative Code
2 permits the Board of County .Commissioners of Broward County to
3 request the Public Service Commission to direct the telephone
4 company to initiate studies to determine whether to extend the
5 areas of telephone service in order to accommodate the increasing
6 need for economical communication between Broward-County and Dade
7 County; and
8 WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the Northwest Council
9 of Mayors that Broward County intends to adopt a Resolution to the
10 Public Service Commission to initiate the appropriate calling usage
11 studies pursuant to the aforesaid Florida Administrative Code
12 Section which the Council supports and endorses pursuant to this
13 Resolution; and
14 WHEREAS, the Council further requests and encourages member
15 municipalities in the Council to have their City Councils and City
16 Commissions adopt similar resolutions supporting the request of
17 Broward County and encouraging the Public Service Commission to aCt
18 favorably upon the requests contained in this Resolution;
19 NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the membership of the
20 Northwest Broward County, Florida Council of Mayors that:
21 Section 1. The Northwest Broward County, Florida, Council
22 of Mayors requests the Public Service Commission to direct the
23 telephone company to initiate appropriate calling usage studies in
24 order to establish extended area service as follows:
25 a. between the Coral Springs exchange and the Hollywood,
26 North Dade, Miami, Perrine and Homestead exchanges;

1 b. between the Deerfield exchange and the Hollywood, North-
2 Dade, Miami, Perrine and Homestead .exchanges;
3 c. between the Pompano exchange and the Hollywood, North
4 Dade, Miami, Perrine, and Homestead exchanges;
5 d. between the Fort Lauderdale exchange and -the Perrine and
6 Homestead exchanges; and
7 e. between the Hollywood exchange and the Perrine and
8 Homestead exchanges.
9 Section 2. The Northwest Broward County, Florida, Council
10 of Mayors hereby further encourages and requests member cities,
11 through their city councils and city commissions, to adopt similar
12 resolutions supporting the Board of County Commissioners of Broward
13 County in their request to the Public Service Commission to
14 initiate appropriate calling usage studies as described herein and
15 to furthermore request the Public Service Commission to act upon
16 the calling usage studies in order to establish extended area
17 service as described in this Resolution.
18 Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective upon its
19 adoption.

Parkland City Commission on June 1, 1994 requesting the Public
Service Commission to direct the telephone company to initiate
